This beardless portrait of an ideal male has frequently been identified as that of Alcibiades. The so-called “Alcibiades” is a Roman copy of a Greek original from the 4th century BC (displayed in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, Hall of the Triumphs, Capitoline Museum). Problem is, the plinth and the inscription (“Alcibiades, son of Cleinias, Athenian”) are modern additions.
