The literature from antiquity that deals with Alcibiades is huge, and this is just a sampling. Opinions concerning his character and behavior are very mixed. Lysias and Isocrates held diametrically opposite views regarding Alcibiades. Whereas Lysias harshly condemns him, Isocrates practically canonizes him in a speech that he wrote for Alcibiades’ son.
