Like writers from antiquity, modern writers have staked out differing positions on Alcibiades. Hatzfeld’s work was required reading when I was in graduate school, and I remember it being mostly a favorable account of Alcibiades’ private and public life. Walter Ellis’ work is not quite as generous, but it still presents a largely positive view.
